Prints that are unstretched are shipped rolled in a roll tube. Large
volume unstretched print orders may be shipped flat. The advantage to
unstretched prints are that we can offer more print sizes whereas with
the stretched option we are limited to the sizes of the stretcher frames.
If you plan to have a framer "gallery wrap" the print in which
the printed area goes on the side or have it custom framed in a size
that is not standard, you may want to choose the unstretched option.
The normal method for when we stretch a print is to secure the canvas
with staples on the side. Since canvas stretches a little a slight amount
of
print "bleed" may
wrap over the sides.
Because the stapes are visible most people will frame their print. When
searching for a frame make sure you find a frame deep enough since the
mounted print is approximately 3/4 inches deep.
Unlike the standard wrap method the white sides wrapped
print has the staples in the back. A slight amount of print "bleed"
may wrap over the sides. This method is used for large size prints (usually
20 x 30" or when prints have at least one side equal or longer than
30 inches. This method provides more even tension all the way around and
also prevent bowing in of the stretcher bars on larger prints.
Because the stapes are in the back some people will hang these prints
up without a frame.
*Bordered Prints
Class A canvas or paper prints will have 1 to 2 inch extra border (margin)
going around the printed area. This will not be considered part of your printed
size. Additional margin space you create within this border will be treated
as "white printed" area and part of your printed size. We do not offer
borderless prints.
**Stretcher
Bars for Canvas Prints
We use pre-cut stretcher bars that are 3/4 inch in depth. This means that
a stretched and mounted prints extends 3/4 inch out from the wall.
These are in both even and odd
numbers from 8 through 35 and even numbers from 36 to 48.
***About Wrapping Image Around Sides
At this time we do not offer the "gallery wrap"
or "museum wrap" method of stretching and mounting
in which the printed area wraps all the way around the sides to the back. If
you plan on having a print gallery wrapped, we recommend ordering an unstretched
print. Please make sure your framer that does the gallery wrapping is familiar
with proper gallery wrapping techniques to prevent damage to the print.
